The Maritime Alps and the West of the Ligurian Riviera ("Riviera Ligure di Ponente") form an area named Alps of the Sea ("Alpi del Mare"). This includes the French Riviera and the Alps of Northern Provence which stretches between Italy and France, and from South Western Alps to the Mediterranean Sea (less than 50 km as the crow flies). This territory, characterized by an excellent diversification of natural environments, but marked by a unique cultural identity (d’Oc civilization), is one of the few locations in the world where, within a little longer than one hour by car or by a comfortable train, a tourist can easily go from the sea to the Alps or vice versa, combining a vacation in the mountains with a vacation by the sea, set in a scenery rich in natural beauties, artistic treasures, historical and cultural interests.
